I have lived in Richmond my whole life and have never understood what this statute was until today and after reading about it it makes me sad to think of the people like me who don't know the story and history of this magnificent statute dedicated to the memory of the brave women of America's past women who braved the harshest conditions imaginable I will from this day forth feel pride knowing this statute is apart of my city.
I stop to spend a half-hour at the foot of the statue every time I travel the National Road from Pennsylvania to Vandalia, IL. (My 4th trip will be fall of 2014.) Richmond is one of my favorite small cities.
